The Double Cluster, NGC 884 and 869


About this Object
One of the prettiest clusters in the sky, the Double Cluster consists of NGC 884 and 869. They are true neighbors being only a few thousand light years apart. Its though that both formed from the same cloud of gas. NGC 884 is estimated to be 3.2 million yrs old and 869 5.6 million years. Both clusters are approaching us in space at near 22km/sec. The hottest main sequence stars are of the spectral type B0.
