M107

About this Object

M107 was one of the last Messier objects discovered.  It is roughly 21,000 light  years distant and moving torwards us
at 147km/sec.    M107 takes on a golden appearance, probably because its light shines through alot of galactic dust.  The faint dust
can be seen in the image, espcially when viewing from a darkened room, as a mottled appearance of the background
most prominent to the NE and NW of the cluster.
