M34


About this Object
M34 is a pretty open cluster in Perseus.  At magnitude 5.2 its visible in dark skies and is a good binocular target.  It's rougly 35 arcmin in size, or the size of
the full moon.   M34 is reported to be over 100million years old.  It contains a mix of young and old stars.  Interestingly there are also many faint galaxies also
visible in the image.  Many around magnitude 15-17.  You can find them in the high resolution view.  Also a planetary nebula, PK-144-15.1 or Abell 4 is
visible on the extreme left edge to the NW of the bright star with diffraction spikes..  Abell 4 is around magnitude 16.7.  Below is a 200% crop of Abell 4. 
Its blue/green in color.
