About this Object
M5, also known as NGC 5904,  is a large, elongated, globular cluster in the constellation Serpens.  It lies approx 26 thousand light years distant and
is nearly 13 billion years old.  It contains a mass equal to 2 million suns.  A little over 22 arcminutes SE of
M5 is the F8 star SAO 120946 shining at magnitude 5
