About this Object
This image of M5, also known as NGC 5904 was taken from my backyard observatory in Ocean Springs, MS. M5 is a bright globular cluster in the contellation Serpens. Its nearly as bright and grand as M13 in Hercules. M5 is nearly 165 light years in diameter and is nearly 13 billion years old. Its distance is roughly 25 thousand light years from Earth and contains more than 100,000 stars. M5 is a wonderful site in telescopes as small as 3" in diameter.
