M95 and M96

About this Object
Like headlights in the abyss, M96 (Left side) and M95 (Right side) shine at magnitudes 9.3 and 9.8 respectively. M96 shows many dark lanes and bright emission sources tightly wound near its core. M95, a barred spiral galaxy has a bar extending across the core and a circular ring of emission sources around the core. Both galaxies are show pieces of the night sky in the constellation Leo. I processed this image using double sampling and viewing it at that size shows an enormous amount of faint background galaxies dimmer than magintude 18. Please wander around the double sampled image to see the extent of these faint background galaixies. This image comprised nearly 19hrs of exposure time.
