About
this Object NGC 7538 lies a bit over 1deg west of M52 in Cepheus and at a distance of near 10,000 light years. It is a bright emission nebula which within contains a very young developing star. This low resolution, wide field image also shows faint hydrogen alpha within the surrounding area. This image is a hybrid RGB color image consisting of broadband luminance, red, green, and blue exposures mixed with narrow band sulphur II and oxygen III. Another wider field image taken in Hydrogen Alpha, Sulpher II and Oxygen III and showing this nebula can be found here: http://www.starscapeimaging.com/Bubble_102006.html For more interesting information about NGC 7538 and the young protostar see http://bima.astro.umd.edu/releases/20030529.html
