Palomar 14


About this Object
Palomar 14 is a very faint globular cluster in the outer halo of the Milky Way in the constellation Hercules. The Palomar Globular clusters were discovered in the 1950's on survery plates from the 200" Palomar Telescope. Palomar 14 (Pal14) is roughly 2.1 arc min in size and shines at a magnitude of 14.7. It lies some 241 thousand light years from the sun. In the image Pal 14 is the faint loose cluster of stars just left of center. Just to the left the Pal 14 is the faint spiral galaxy PGC 10045 shining at a magnutude of 18.1. In the upper left is the bright orange K2 type star SAO 101983 located 197 light years distant..
